    Rules for Ocean Crossing

   

  • At night time you MUST always have your lifejacket on and be hooked to the boat with your lifeline
  • Never go forward without telling someone, either day or night
  • One hand for you, the other for the boat
  • No peeing overboard at nightime
  • Avoid unncessary noise at nightime which disturbs those sleeping
  • Limit consumption of alcohol and NONE for who is about to go on watch
  • No smoking below decks
  • No drugs, obviously
  • Keep WC clean; limit use of toilet  paper; in rough seas, better to sit for peeing
  • Care personal hygene
  • NO rings on fingers and attention to robust watch bands which can get hooked
  • Wear suitable footwear when out on deck
  • NO rubbish overboard, if not organic material
  • Close shower fawcett when soaping up and limit water waste
  • In rolling sea, at the table keep bottles in bottle holder and glasses in glass holders and hold onto your plate
  • Wash dishes first with sea water using foot pump
  • During your watch spend some time at the helm to rest auto-pilot and to save batteries
  • Switch off unnecessary lights
  • Keep the boat clean and in order, including your cabin
  • When descending to the transom to retrieve a fish or to take a sea shower you must be tied to the boat
  • Make daily tours of the boat to check all equipment for chafe and maintenance requirements
  • Beware of effects of electric winches, being powerful they can cause much damage to the boat and serious injury to the crew
  • During night watches, be vigil and frequently scour the horizon of full 360 degrees
  • If you become most sleepy on your watch, notify someone
  • Reduce sail, immediately you think it may be necessary
  • In any emergency or important doubt, wake immediately the skipper
