Carthage
was once the ruler of the Mediterranean Seas, with its most technically
advanced fleets of ships, moored in the futuristic, circular docking
station, hidden behind the commercial port. The remains of this powerful
city, can still be seen today, by the cruising sailman, stopping over at
the modern marina of Sidi bu Said.
The capital
city, Tunis, lies only a few kms away. Bizerte
is often the first port of call, for those sailing down from France and
Sardinia, after stopping over at the northern island of La
Galite. Hammamet offers an
ultra-modern marina and five-star hotels.
Inland
and southern Tunisia also merit a visit, the cities of Kairouan,
Sfax, Sousse etc.
